unnamed I recently posted about our struggles with infertility, and thought I would share my biggest lifestyle change that I have made within the passed month.  I stopped drinking coffee all together. I know, I know, I never thought I would ever say this.  Coffee is one of my favorite things in the world.  A nice warm cup of Bustelo coffee with coconut creamer definitely hits the spot, but after doing research, I knew it was time for me take the plunge.

Everyday for as long as I can remember, I woke up in the morning and immediately had my cup of coffee.  The more and more research I did, I found that having that cup of coffee was throwing me off, before I even got started. It was completely throwing off my endocrine system, and setting up my blood sugar levels for the day.  I am following a specific diet with my naturopath, eating all organic and being very strict with the types of food I am eating.  All of this was getting thrown off before I even got started!  So yes, I made the executive decision to stop drinking coffee.

This was honestly one of my hardest decisions, and saddest moments, might I say.  I would wake up have a cup of coffee, then about noon I would have another cup of coffee.  I didn't quit all together, I slowly weaned myself off.  I didn't want to completely lose my mind and stop all together, plus I thought it was a nice goodbye for me to savor my last couple of cups of joe.  I decided to first tackle the afternoon cup.  The first couple of days I drank only a half of a cup, then after that I moved to green tea for a couple of days.  Then I went to a half a cup in the morning, and then to green tea.  I did the same with green tea, but still enjoy a good cup of decaffeinated tea in the afternoon.  I still want something warm and tasty when I get home from work.

My side effects from making this decision, was more energy.  I can't believe I'm saying this, because my biggest fear was I thought I would be sleeping through the day!  I have no trouble during the day at all.  I also don't have that crash after the coffee, so the energy is constant, in stead of up and down.  I drink way more water too!  I always shoot for a gallon of water, but now I'm drinking over a gallon of water!  My digestion system seems to be working better.  I'm sleeping better.  I also don't feel as anxious, or up tight.  Honestly, I have never felt better without coffee.  Do I miss it??  YES!!!!!!  Will I have coffee again, probably.  But my plan is to enjoy a cup of coffee every once in a while, and not make it something that I have to rely on daily.  I definitely don't plan on going back anytime soon.

Have you considered cutting out coffee??  What's holding you back? Share your experiences below!
